The Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, in collaboration with Silk Road City Alliance hosted a Nepal Tea-tasting Festival under the theme “Strengthening Nepal-China Cultural Bonds” at the China International Futures Building today. The event aimed to promote Nepali tea and develop networking among Nepali and Chinese tea traders and business.
Deliverng the speech during the event, H.E. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to the People’s Republic of China highlighted a tea culture in Nepal and China and potentiality of huge commercial success of Nepali tea in China given its uniqueness and speciality. He also urged the enterprises to build network and develop market strategies to promote Nepali tea in China. He further emphasized need for collaboration between Nepal and China in the area of capacity building, research and development and technology transfer. H.E. Dr. Oli also highlighted the dedication of smallholder farmers who pour their hearts and souls into cultivating tea. He acknowledged the vital contribution of tea to the green economy, the farmers' role in ecosystem preservation, and their efforts in promoting eco-civilization.
H.E. Mr. Chen Song, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, extended his wishes for the success of the program through a video message. In his message, H.E. Mr. Chen highlighted that tea has evolved into an important medium through which China, along with other civilizations around the world, can engage in meaningful exchanges and mutual learning. He further expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Nepal, continuing to utilize tea as a platform to promote mutual benefit, cultural integration, and strengthened people-to-people ties.
In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Yuan Mindao, Vice-Chairman of China People’s Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) said that in the context of Nepal China relation, tea is more than cup of drink and signifies profound friendship, exemplifies close cultural connection and promises win-win cooperation. Likewise, Mr. Xu Xiaohu, Vice President of China Chamber of Commerce of I/E of Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-Products (CFNA) stated that China is the potential market for quality orthodox black tea from Nepal. Mr. Zhong Qifa whose company Xiamen Cha Tu Trade Com. Ltd is engaged in trading of Nepali tea in China, praised high quality of the Nepali tea and stated that the Chinese consumer have shown strong prefernce towards the pure and high-quality Nepali tea. Mr. Song Ronghua, President of Silk Road City Alliance while thanking the participants for their gracious presence at the event mentioned that tea is not mere trading commodities for Nepal-China, rather a manifestation of strong cultural bonds.
Varities of Orthodox Nepali Teas: black, white, golden, green etc. were showcased and participants were provided opportunities to taste these tea. The Embassy felicitated several Chinese companies which import tea from Nepal.The event was attended by more than 200 participants including official from Chinese Government, Diplomatic communities stationed in Beijing, Nepali and Chinese tea entrepreneurs, friends and well wishers of Nepal as well as media representatives..
